Just 4 days after Zoot athlete Javier Gomez won silver at the men’s Olympic Triathlon in London, Zoot athlete Jordan Rapp won the Ironman U.S. Championships held in New York on August 11th. Rapp celebrated his 2nd Ironman victory of the year, 5th of his lifetime, after a solid day in New York.
By mile 101 of the bike, Rapp took the lead and didn’t let it go, finishing 13 minutes and 14 seconds ahead of his closest competitor. His 2:59:21 marathon in the grueling heat earned him the win and enough points to compete in the Ironman World Championships which will be held in Kona, Hawaii on October 13th. Finishing first in his hometown near Riverside Park where he used to play lacrosse with his high school team was a special experience for Rapp.
This isn’t the first major win for Rapp, in 2009 he placed 1st at Ironman Canada and 1st at Ironman Arizona. In 2010 he was on his way to another successful year in triathlon when he was in a horrific bicycle accident that almost took his life. After several months of intense therapy, Rapp went back to Arizona and placed 4th. Earlier this year he won Ironman Texas and just topped of his resume with his 5th Ironman win at New York.
Along with Javier Gomez, Jordan Rapp has been working with Zoot Footwear Manager, Dave Jewell, to develop and perfect the Ultra Kiawe running shoe. Rapp had the fastest run of the day in the Ultra Kiawe. He was also out of the water in the top 10 in the SpeedZoot. Known for his meticulous attention to detail, Rapp has been a huge asset to the Zoot Product Development Team over the last two years.
